The Company
MMP Technologies, the consulting division of Multi-Media Publications (Pty) Ltd, specialises in software development, electronic publishing, transportation modelling, traffic engineering and civil engineering design.
Multi-Media Publications (Pty) Ltd was established in 1992 with two directors and shareholders: Managing Director Ronel Oberholzer and Technical Director Dev Oberholzer. At the time, the intention was to establish a publishing company that focused on publishing interactive material on electronic media such as compact and digital video discs.
The company initially produced a few interactive CDs for interested clients using tools such as Microsoft's Windows Media development kit. However, these endeavours were short-lived, given the rapid spread of the World Wide Web, invented in 1989 by English computer scientist Tim Berners-Lee, and the release of the first rudimentary internet browser in January 1991. Within two years, there were already 50 websites, with the numbers growing exponentially after the release of commercial web browsers such as Mosaic in 1993, Netscape Navigator in 1994 and Microsoft Internet Explorer in 1995.
Consequently, MMP's focus shifted to commercial software development across a range of different platforms, as well as transportation and traffic modelling utilising Dev's technical expertise. With Ronel managing all the financial aspects and the day-to-day running of the company, the partnership has been operating successfully in this mode, for the thirty years since establishment.
